What they are fighting over
The setting is a war-torn state called Kolchia, and the prize is PV-1, a rare resource the fiction credits with fuelling decades of Eurasian conflict. The visual language — derelict industrial mountains, Eastern European infrastructure — comes out of that, and the studio has said it gathered references in Georgia for it.
The correction worth making
LONESTAR is a faction. It appears in weapon skin names — a “Lonestar Branded Bushmaster Camo”, for instance — and that has been read in a few places as LONESTAR being a manufacturer, with the Bushmaster described as its entry-level rifle. Nothing published supports a weapon-manufacturer reading: the brand in that name is the faction branding the camo, not a gunmaker.
Does the faction change how you play?
Nothing published says any faction has different equipment, economy or progression. Since roles are bought rather than chosenand the shop is the same system for everyone, the reasonable reading is that faction is a side rather than a loadout — but that is a reading, and the studio has not stated it either way.
How the three-way fight actually scores is on the Control Zone page.
